Should I sell or buy first?

Should you sell and then buy, or should you buy and then sell? It can be tricky to time a sale and a purchase optimally. However, there are options for overcoming potential timing issues. Are all the methods of sale still available to sell my property?

If you wish to sell your home but are unsure about its current value, the best way to get started is to book an appraisal from your local real estate agent. This will give you a precise indication of how much your property is worth.

Appraisals can now be done virtually by using video communication apps and software such as FaceTime, Zoom or WhatsApp.

Promotion details

Promotion - LJ Hooker Spring Competition 2026

Promoter - LJ Hooker New Zealand Limited (NZBN 9429039183934) of L17, 15 Customs Street West, Auckland 1010

Promotion Period - The period between 9:00am NZST 1st July 2026 to 11.59pm NZDT 30th November 2026.

Definitions - Appraisal: A valid sales or property management appraisal, being an estimate of a property’s sale or rental price in the current market, conducted by an LJ Hooker Licensee or Property Manager.

LJ Hooker Licensee/Property Manager: a qualified real estate licensee, or property manager authorised to operate within the LJ Hooker franchise network, as may be located at the website: https://www.ljhooker.co.nz/find-an-agent.

Eligible Entrants - Entry is only open to New Zealand residents who are 18 years and over and own at least one (1) residential property in New Zealand and who are not:

Directors, officers, management members or employees (and the immediate family members of directors, officers, management members or employees) of the Promoter or any of its licensees or associated companies; or

otherwise involved in the conduct or management of the Promotion.

No entry fee is charged by the Promoter to enter the Promotion. Where entry is allowed online, there is no additional cost to enter the Promotion other than any cost paid by the entrant to access the website or social media platform of entry via their Internet service provider.

How to enter

Entry Requirements - To enter the Promotion, Eligible Entrants must, during the Promotion Period, book and complete an Appraisal for a residential property they own with an LJ Hooker Licensee/Property Manager (Qualifying Appraisal Entry).

Each Eligible Entrant who completes a Qualifying Appraisal Entry during the Promotion Period will receive one entry into the Prize Draw.

Entries Permitted - Qualifying Appraisal Entries will be limited to one entry for each residential property owned by an Eligible Entrant. If more than one Appraisal is conducted for the same residential property, only the first Appraisal will be deemed to be a Qualifying Appraisal Entry.

Each entry must be submitted in accordance with the entry requirements outlined in these Terms and Conditions.

Once an entrant has been drawn as a Prize Winner in any Prize Draw, all of that entrant’s remaining Qualifying Appraisal Entries will be removed from all subsequent Prize Draws (and any associated Unclaimed Prize Draws). An entrant may only win one Prize during the Promotion.

 

Prize -There will be five (5) Prizes drawn during the Promotion as follows:

July Draw - LG GB-V300MBL 340L Bottom Mount Fridge with InstaView valued at NZ$2,049.00 (RRP);

August Draw- LG 65QNED87B6A 65" QNED 4K Smart TV valued at NZ$2,999.00 (RRP);

September Draw - LG WWT-1910BX 19/10kg WashTower Stacked Washer Dryer (Black) valued at NZ$4,499.00 (RRP);

October Draw - LG GF-L700MBL 637L French Door Fridge valued at NZ$4,099.00 (RRP); and

Grand Prize Draw - LG OLED77C66LA 77" LG OLED evo AI C6 Smart TV valued at NZ$9,599.00 (RRP).

Total prize pool value: NZ$23,245.00 (RRP).

Each of the above will be referred to as a 'Prize' and the winner of each Prize will be referred to as a 'Prize Winner'.

 

Prize Draw -Five random electronic Prize Draws of all eligible Qualifying Appraisal Entries will take place at Level 29, 85 Castlereagh Street, Sydney 2000.

For each Prize Draw, one Qualifying Appraisal Entry will be randomly drawn from all eligible Qualifying Appraisal Entries received in New Zealand up to and including the relevant entry close date for that draw, and the entrant associated with that Qualifying Appraisal Entry will win the Prize for that month.

Once an entrant has been drawn as a Prize Winner in any Prize Draw, all of that entrant’s remaining Qualifying Appraisal Entries will be removed from all subsequent Prize Draws (and any associated Unclaimed Prize Draws). An entrant may only win one Prize during the Promotion.

Each non-winning Qualifying Appraisal Entry will be included in subsequent draws.

Each Prize Draw will be conducted by the Promoter and will be entirely random.

July Draw – Entries close 5:00pm (NZST) 31 July 2026 with the draw to take place on Monday, 10 August 2026 (3:00pm AEST).

August Draw – Entries close 5:00pm (NZST) 31 August 2026 with the draw to take place on Thursday, 10 September 2026 (3:00pm AEST).

September Draw - Entries close 5:00pm (NZST) 30 September 2026 with the draw to take place on Friday, 9 October 2026 (3:00pm AEDT).

October Draw - Entries close 5:00pm (NZDT) 31 October 2026 with the draw to take place on Tuesday, 10 November 2026 (3:00pm AEDT).

Grand Prize Draw - Entries close 5:00pm (NZDT) November 2026 with the draw to take place on Thursday, 10 December 2026 (3:00pm AEDT).

 

Unclaimed Prize Draw - If a Prize is not claimed by the winner of the relevant Prize Draw in accordance with these Terms and Conditions, an Unclaimed Prize Draw for that Prize will be held thirty (30) days after the original Prize Draw at the same time and place as the original Prize Draw. All eligible Qualifying Appraisal Entries that were entered into the original Prize Draw (except the Qualifying Appraisal Entry drawn as a Prize Winner in that Prize Draw, and any Qualifying Appraisal Entries belonging to entrants who have already won a Prize in an earlier Prize Draw) will be entered into the Unclaimed Prize Draw and one Qualifying Appraisal Entry will be randomly drawn.

 

Winner Notification and Claiming the Prize -The Promoter will, within 2 business days of the relevant Prize Draw, notify the winner of that Prize Draw in writing by email via the email address provided as part of the Qualifying Entry. The winner must claim the Prize within 14 days of being notified by confirming their acceptance of the Prize to the Promoter in writing to marketing@ljhooker.com.

Following the winner’s acceptance of the Prize, the winner will be contacted by the LJ Hooker marketing team (or a nominated LJ Hooker representative) to gather the winner’s contact and delivery details to ensure the Prize is sent to the winner’s nominated New Zealand delivery address.

Once the winner’s delivery details have been confirmed, the LJ Hooker representative will process and order the monthly Prize via the LG New Zealand website (https://www.lg.com/nz/).

The Promoter will use reasonable endeavours to place each monthly Prize order promptly following the winner’s acceptance and confirmation of delivery details. In particular, the Promoter will use reasonable endeavours to place the order for the Grand Prize before 25 December 2026, subject to the winner accepting the Prize and providing valid delivery details within the timeframes set out in these Terms and Conditions.

LG Electronics New Zealand (LG) will handle the dispatch and logistics of delivering the Prize directly to the winner’s nominated New Zealand delivery address. Delivery timeframes are managed solely by LG and are subject to LG’s standard fulfilment processes and stock availability. Delivery may extend beyond 25 December 2026 (including into 2027) where fulfilment falls within or close to the holiday period. The Promoter is not responsible for any delay, loss or damage to the Prize caused by LG or any third-party carrier engaged by LG, except to the extent caused by the Promoter’s own negligence or wilful misconduct or as required by the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.

If the winner of a Prize Draw fails to claim the relevant Prize in accordance with the above, the winner will be taken to have forfeited the Prize and the Promoter will then offer the Prize to the winner of the Unclaimed Prize Draw for that Prize.

The Promoter will notify the winner of the Unclaimed Prize Draw in writing by email via the email address provided as part of the Qualifying Entry. The winner of the Unclaimed Prize Draw must claim the Prize within 4 days of being notified by confirming acceptance of the Prize to the Promoter in writing to marketing@ljhooker.com, after which the LJ Hooker representative will contact the winner to gather delivery details and process the order via the LG New Zealand website (https://www.lg.com/nz/ ) for dispatch by LG in accordance with the process set out above.

Publication of Winners -The name (surname and initial of fist name) and postcode and/or region of residence of the Prize Winner will be published on https://www.ljhooker.co.nz/ within 2 business days of the Prize Draw and/or Unclaimed Prize Draw.

Privacy policy
    • By entering the Promotion, entrants agree to be bound by the Terms and Conditions of the Promotion, which consist of these General Terms and Conditions and the terms set out in the Promotion Details.
    • No entry fee is charged by the Promoter to enter the Promotion. Where entry is allowed online, there is no additional cost to enter the Promotion other than any cost paid by the entrant to access the website or social media platform of entry via their Internet service provider.
    • The Promoter is not responsible for any communications network or any late, lost, incorrectly submitted, delayed, ineligible, incomplete, corrupted or misdirected entry whether due to error, transmission interruption or otherwise.
    • It is a condition of entry into the Promotion that entrants provide the Promoter with their correct first and last name, and valid contact number and email address. Where an entrant's contact details change at any time after entering the Promotion and before the date of the Prize Draw, the entrant must notify the LJ Hooker Licensee with which they completed the Appraisal (via the contact details provided to the entrant by the LJ Hooker Licensee, or as otherwise notified to the entrant) of their correct contact details immediately. Any entries will be void if the correct contact details are missing or invalid. The Promoter is not responsible for any incomplete or incorrectly submitted details provided by an entrant.
    • The Promoter reserves the right, at any time, in its sole discretion to verify the validity of entries and eligibility of entrants (including an entrant's identity, age, place of residence and any other details forming part of an entrant's eligibility or the Entry Requirements) and to require an entrant to provide proof or documentation to confirm an entrant's eligibility to enter the Promotion and claim the Prize.
    • The Promoter reserves the right to disqualify any entrant whom the Promoter has reason to believe has breached any of these Terms and Conditions, tampered with the entry process or engaged in any unlawful or other improper conduct calculated to jeopardise fair and proper conduct of the Promotion. The Promoter’s legal rights to recover damages or other compensation from such an entrant are reserved.
    • The results of the Prize Draw (and any Unclaimed Prize Draw) are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
    • It is a condition of accepting Prize that the Prize Winner agrees to:
    • the publication of their name, postcode and/or region of residence in accordance with these Terms and Conditions;
    • participate in all publicity reasonably requested by the Promoter in connection with the Promotion (and the Prize);
    • consent to the use of their name, image and likeness in any media for an unlimited period without remuneration in connection with the Promotion (and the Prize), and for promotional purposes related to the Promoter and/or its licensees; and
    • at the Promoter's reasonable request, do all things necessary (including signing all documentation) necessary to give effect to this clause and/or to enable the Promoter to provide any part of the Prize.
    • The Prize must be taken as stated and no compensation will be payable if the Prize Winner is unable to use the Prize as stated. The Prize is not transferable or redeemable for cash or other goods or services. The Prize cannot be transferred to any other person, unless agreed to by the Promoter. It is a condition of accepting the Prize that the Prize Winner accepts the conditions of use of the Prize.
    • The Promoter accepts no responsibility for any variation in the value of the Prize, or any costs or expenses associated with use of the Prize.
    • If the Prize (or part of the Prize) is unavailable, the Promoter, in its discretion, reserves the right to substitute the Prize (or that part of the Prize) with a prize (or part thereof) to the equal value and/or specification, subject to any directions from a regulatory authority.
    • A failure by the Promoter to enforce any of its rights at any stage does not constitute a waiver of those rights.
    • If for any reason any aspect of this Promotion is not capable of running as planned, including by reason of computer virus, communications network failure, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud, technical failure or any cause beyond the control of the Promoter which corrupt or affect the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper conduct of this Promotion, the Promoter may in its sole discretion take any action that it considers necessary, including cancelling, terminating, modifying or suspending the Promotion and invalidating any affected entries, or suspending or modifying a prize, without any further obligations to any entrants or the Prize Winner.
    • Nothing in these Terms and Conditions limits, excludes or modifies or purports to limit, exclude or modify the statutory consumer guarantees as provided under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
    • Except for any liability that cannot by law be excluded, including the Non-Excludable Guarantees, the Promoter, its licensees and related entities (including its respective directors, officers, employees and agents) are not responsible for and exclude all liability (including negligence), for any loss or damage (including loss of opportunity), whether direct, indirect, special or consequential, arising in any way out of:
    • any technical difficulties or equipment malfunction (whether or not under the Promoter’s control);
    • any entry or Prize claim that is late, lost, altered, damaged or misdirected (whether or not after their receipt by the Promoter) due to any reason beyond the reasonable control of the Promoter;
    • any variation in the Prize or Prize value to that stated in these terms;
    • any tax liability incurred by a beneficiary of the Prize;
    • any use or taking of the Prize; or
    • the Promotion.
    • Complaints regarding the Promotion may be submitted by email to compliance@ljhooker.com. If there is a dispute concerning the complaint, the decision of the Promoter will be final and no further correspondence will be entered into.
    • All entries become the property of the Promoter. Entrants consent to the Promoter using personal information provided in connection with the Promotion for the purposes of facilitating the conduct of the Promotion, awarding any Prizes (including to third parties involved in the Promotion and any applicable statutory authorities) and providing marketing communications. Without limiting the foregoing, entrants’ personal information provided in connection with the Promotion will be handled in accordance with Australian Privacy Principles and the Promoter’s Privacy Policy, which is available at: https://www.ljhooker.co.nz/privacy-policy.
    • The Prize will only be delivered to a residential or business address within New Zealand. The Prize Winner must provide a valid New Zealand delivery address. The Promoter is not obliged to ship the Prize to any address outside New Zealand, to a PO Box, or to a parcel locker.
    • Risk and title in the Prize pass to the Prize Winner on delivery to the address nominated by the Prize Winner. The Promoter is not liable for any loss of, or damage to, the Prize after delivery.
    • Each Prize is supplied with the standard manufacturer’s warranty (if any) issued by LG. The Promoter gives no warranty in relation to the Prize beyond the statutory consumer guarantees under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993 and the manufacturer’s warranty. Any warranty claim must be made directly with LG in accordance with the terms of the manufacturer’s warranty.
    • The Prize does not include installation, set-up, mounting, removal of existing appliances, connection to utilities, or any after-sales services, unless expressly stated otherwise by the Promoter in writing.
    • The Promoter has engaged LG to supply and deliver the Prizes. While the Promoter has taken reasonable care in selecting LG as the supplier, the Promoter is not responsible for the acts or omissions of LG or any of its agents or carriers, except to the extent required by the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
